SUMMARY:Headed Out and Wake Walkers
DESCRIPTION:LONG AWAITED DETAILS FOR THE HIKE\, Saturday\, May 30th. \nWe will be hiking at Horton Grove Nature Preserve!   This favorite spot will not disappoint as we hike trails previously missed. We will hike a total of 2.5 miles of trails with very little elevation; the Sowell Trail\, a just under 1 mile loop around a small pond and the Jordan Trail\, an out-and-back trail of 1.5 miles.\nAfterwards\, we will gather at the Stagville Visitor Center for an hour tour of the Bennehan House\, enslaved quarters\, and Barn.  Once one of the largest plantations in NC\, the Horton Grove trails are named for local African American families whose ancestors endured slavery here.   Lunch in Durham afterwards\, depending on interest.  Bring water\, sunscreen\, mosquito repellent\, walking/hiking shoes\, a snack  & $2.00/person for the tour.  \nWE MUST HAVE AN ACCURATE NUMBER OF ATTENDEES IN ORDER TO SECURE OUR TIME FOR THE TOUR.  PLEASE REGISTER ONLINE BY MAY 28TH! \nNote: From Crabtree Valley Mall allow approx. 1 hour to get to the Stagville visitor center.  The trailhead parking lot is past Stagville Plantation at 6026 Jock Rd. SUMMARY:Wake Walkers and Headed Out
DESCRIPTION:We are headed out to another Triangle Land Conservancy nature preserve! \nBrumley North is one of the more popular areas to explore within the Brumley Forest Nature Preserve. We will hike a route that loops four different trails together in approx. 3.4 miles with an elevation of 114 ft. No mountain bikes allowed on the Brumley North trails! \nOriginal inhabitants were the Eno\, Lumbee\, and Shakori people. In the 1800’s\, this land was part of the Strayhorn Plantation\, one of the largest slave-owning plantations in Orange Co. In the 1990’s\, George and Julia Brumley purchased this land to stop a proposed development; the land was sold in 2010 to the TLC for public use. \nBring water and remember a hat and sunscreen!\nAfter this hike\, we will travel a short distance into Hillsborough to have lunch at Hillsborough BBQ Co. DESCRIPTION:The Bailey & Sarah Williamson Nature and Farm Preserve is just one of our favorite TLCs in our area. From the parking lot\, we will take the Walnut Hill Way\, hike along the “Two Pond Loop” trail\, connecting to the more wooded “Little Falls Loop” trail. In total\, this 3.6-mile hike is an easy to intermediate beginner trail hike with slight inclines\, tree roots\, and of course\, great scenery. Please wear hiking shoes\, bring water\, and snacks.
